Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari and Russian President’s Special Envoy on Syria Alexander Lavrentiev in a meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Thursday discussed bilateral ties and regional developments, especially Syria.
During the meeting in the Kazakh capital today, Jaberi Ansari and Lavrentiev discussed issues related to fighting terrorism, holding Syria’s National Dialogue Congress and also urgent humanitarian issues, madaresharghi reported.
Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari arrived in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan, to attend the 8th round of Astana Talks on Wednesday.
Jaberi Ansari, Iran’s top negotiator in Syria Peace International Conference, is heading a high-ranking delegation to Astana.
The 8th Astana International Conference is scheduled to be held on Thursday and Friday December 21-22, 2017.
Delegations from guarantor states (Iran, Russia and Turkey), the Syrian government and opposition groups as well as observers likes the UN, US and Jordan are participating in this round of talks.
Astana Talks on Syria initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin and upon his agreement with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in December 2016 and then Iran’s agreement began by trilateral participation of Moscow, Ankara and Tehran.
