Iranian canoeist Adel Mojalali has given his bronze medal in Canoe Sprint World Championship, the first international medal ever received by an Iranian athlete in the field, to Mohsen Hojaji, Iranian military advisor who was recently martyred by Daesh terrorists in Syria.

Mojalali ranked third in 200-meter canoe sprint in 2017 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships held on August 23-27 in Račice, Czech Republic, IRNA reported.

Hojaji, a holy shrine defender, was taken hostage by the Daesh Takfiri group near the Iraqi border on August 7 and was beheaded two days later.

The shrine of Sayyidda Zeinab, a sister of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shiite Imam, is located in Damascus, Syria. Iranian military advisors have played an important role in the protection of the holy shrine against terrorist attacks.
