Iran has established radiation defense bases in provinces hosting nuclear facilities, head of the Passive Defense Organization said.
In remarks at a videoconference on Monday, Brigadier General Gholamreza Jalali said the radiation defense bases have been set up in five provinces of the country with nuclear sites and facilities, Tasnim News Agency reported.
The bases have been established as part of a mechanism for dealing with the threats of possible radiation leaking from nuclear sites, he added.
The commander also noted that the Passive Defense Organization has formulated a strategy known as the urban defense document to protect the cities and offer a modern model for urban development in accordance with the security and defense regulations.
Iran has several nuclear sites in different provinces including Bushehr, Qom and Tehran.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei highlighted the important role of the Passive Defense Organization in countering enemies’ threats and urged all military and non-military sectors to closely cooperate with the organization.
