Yemen\u2019s Houthi forces shot down a US surveillance drone in the capital Sanaa on Sunday, the state news agency SABA reported.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n
\n

\n\tThe Houthi movement and former president Ali Abdullah Saleh control much of northern Yemen, including Sanaa, and are battling a Saudi-led coalition that has been bombing the impoverished nation since March 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tThe United States backs the Saudi-led coalition by providing it with intelligence and weapons, Reuters reported.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA military source said (Houthi) air defense shot down a US MQ-9 surveillance drone in the Jader area, in Sanaa Province,\u201d SABA reported.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tA Reuters photographer said the drone came down at around 11 a.m. local time in a crowded area on the outskirts of the capital, but there were no reports of any casualties.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tThe charred wreckage of the aircraft was carried out by the Houthis aboard a Toyota pickup truck.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tThe Bahrain-based US Fifth Fleet did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tMore than 10,000 people have been killed since Saudi Arabia and its allies began their aggression against Yemen. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tThe war has caused a humanitarian disaster in the country, where more than two million people have been displaced while around 750,000 are suspected to have been infected with cholera.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
