British arms companies have earned more than \u00a36 billion from their trade with Saudi Arabia during the ongoing war in Yemen, new research has found.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n
\n

\n\tWar Child UK claimed the true revenue from dealings with the Persian Gulf state are almost double previous estimates, despite only around \u00a330 million going to the public through corporation tax receipts, The Independent reported.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe charity accused private manufacturers including BAE Systems and Raytheon of \u201cprofiteering from the deaths of innocent children\u201d by selling missiles and equipment to the Saudi-led coalition.<\/p>\n

\n\tIt stands accused of committing war crimes and killing thousands of civilians with its bombing campaign against Yemenis.<\/p>\n

\n\tRocco Blume, a conflict and humanitarian advisor at War Child, said Britain is not only selling arms to Saudi forces but maintaining them as well.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe estimated revenue from ongoing support pushed the estimated revenue far above the\u00a0\u00a33.6 billion figure announced by the Campaign Against the Arms Trade\u00a0last week.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe all want to see productive international trade, but this is damaging,\u201d Blume said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe revenue has to be seen in the context of all the other costs incurred in this trade, especially to our international reputation, particularly on human rights.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBlume said there was a \u201clack of transparency\u201d on the extent of British firms\u2019 involvement amid a global weakening of protections for children in conflicts including Yemen, Syria and Iraq.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe also raised concern that the UK was becoming \u201cless fussy\u201d about international trading partners as Brexit approaches.<\/p>\n

\n\tBAE Systems and Raytheon were among the exhibitors at an arms fair held in London last week, which was supported by government ministers and senior military commanders.<\/p>\n

\n\tSaudi Arabia was blacklisted by the United Nations\u00a0for committing grave violations against children last year but later\u00a0removed\u00a0from the list after protests from the country\u2019s government.<\/p>\n

\n\tMPs and humanitarian organizations have called on the British government to end arms sales to Riyadh, but it\u00a0won a legal challenge\u00a0mounted by the Campaign Against the Arms Trade in July.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe High Court ruled that the trade did not break the law because there was no evidence of the Saudi-led coalition deliberately targeting civilians, while it investigates alleged civilian casualties.<\/p>\n

\n\tSaudi Arabia\u00a0launched its military campaign in\u00a0Yemen\u00a0in\u00a0March\u00a0of 2015. The aggression has killed over 12,000 Yemenis, many of them women and children.<\/p>\n
