\n\t\t\tThe\u00a0Gorran Movement \u2013 also known as\u00a0Change List \u2013 and the Kurdistan Islamic Group, in a joint statement released on Monday, stated that they \u201cdemand the postponement of September 25 vote to a more appropriate time,\u201d Arabic-language al-Sumaria television network reported.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBoth parties further underlined that the decision to hold an independence referendum must be legislated by the Kurdistan Parliament at first place.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe two major Kurdish parties also stressed the need for necessary work\u00a0in order to hold parliamentary and presidential elections in the Kurdistan region as planned for November 1.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTurkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told the state-run TRT Haber television news network on August 16 that the Iraqi\u00a0Kurdistan region’s plans\u00a0to hold an independence referendum\u00a0would lead to “civil war” in\u00a0Iraq.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHoshyar Zebari, a close adviser to Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) President Massoud Barzani, told Reuters on August 12 that Kurdish authorities were determined to hold the referendum on September 25 irrespective of all objections.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIn June, Iraqi Prime Minister\u00a0Haider al-Abadi\u00a0described as untimely the decision by Barzani to hold the referendum.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\u201cWe have a constitution that we’ve voted on, we have a federal parliament and a federal government\u2026The referendum at this time is not opportune,\u201d Abadi said on June 13.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIran has also expressed opposition to the \u201cunilateral\u201d scheme, underlining the importance of maintaining the integrity and stability of Iraq and insisting that the Kurdistan region is part of the majority Arab state.<\/p>\n
