A 21-year-old Palestinian has died of his wounds following an incident where he was shot and critically injured by Israeli military forces near a refugee camp in the southern occupied West Bank district of Bethlehem more than three weeks ago.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIssa Qaraqe, the head of the Palestinian Committee for Prisoners\u2019 Affairs, confirmed on Sunday afternoon that Raed al-Salihi succumbed to his wounds at an Israeli hospital, Maan news\u00a0agency\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n

\n\tQaraqe said he held the Tel Aviv regime responsible for the young man\u2019s death, as Salihi was shot at close range. The young Palestinian was shot in the liver during a predawn raid into Duheisha refugee camp on August\u00a09.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAnother resident of the camp, Aziz Arafeh, was also shot in the leg.<\/p>\n

\n\tSalihi and Arafeh were both presumably unarmed when they were shot.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe two injured men were detained by Israeli forces and later taken to Israel’s Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem al-Quds for treatment.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe lawyer for the prisoners\u2019 committee, Karim Ajwa, had earlier said in a report that there had been a slight improvement in Salihi\u2019s health.<\/p>\n

\n\tSalihi\u2019s brother Bassam was also arrested by Israeli forces during a raid into the camp on August 16.<\/p>\n

\n\tShortly after the announcement of Salihi’s death, mourners poured onto the streets and launched a protest march in Duheisha.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn July,\u00a018-year-old Baraa Hamamda,\u00a0a resident of Duheisha, succumbed to wounds sustained in his upper body after he was shot by Israeli forces during a raid into the camp.<\/p>\n

\n\tIsraeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem al-Quds.<\/p>\n

\n\tDue to the typically aggressive nature of the raids, clashes often erupt. Local Palestinian youth throw stones\u00a0and are met in response with live fire by Israeli regime forces.<\/p>\n

\n\tHuman rights groups have routinely condemned Israeli authorities for their use of\u00a0excessive force\u00a0against Palestinians.<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to Maan, Salihi was the 55th Palestinian to be killed by Israeli forces since the beginning of 2017.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe occupied Palestinian territories have witnessed new tensions ever since Israeli forces introduced restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem al-Quds in August 2015.<\/p>\n

\n\tMore than 300 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces since October 2015.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Tel Aviv regime has tried to change the demographic makeup of Jerusalem al-Quds over the past decades by constructing settlements, destroying historical sites and expelling the local Palestinian population.<\/p>\n
