The Iranian president\u2019s chief of staff called for the expansion of cooperation with Germany, which he hailed as a traditional trade partner of Iran.<\/p>\n
\u201cGermany is one of the traditional trade and economic partners of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Tehran welcomes the enhancement of mutual cooperation [with Berlin],\u201d Mahmoud Vaezi said in a meeting with German Ambassador to Tehran Hans Odo Motzel in the Iranian capital on Tuesday, Tasnim News Agency reported on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
He also highlighted ample opportunities for cooperation between Tehran and Berlin in the political, trade and humanitarian fields.<\/p>\n
Commenting on Germany\u2019s involvement in the talks on Iran\u2019s peaceful nuclear program that resulted in the signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in July 2015, Vaezi said Iran will honor its commitments under the deal if the other sides fulfill theirs.<\/p>\n
The JCPOA was signed between Iran and the P5+1. In May 2018, however, President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the deal and reimposed Washington\u2019s unilateral sanctions on Tehran in a bid to cripple the Iranian economy. The sanctions, nevertheless, failed to produce the desired result.<\/p>\n
The German envoy lauded Iran\u2019s rich culture and history and the country\u2019s prominent role in the region, stressing the need for dialogue among countries and cultures.<\/p>\n
Dialogue is an effective solution to regional problems, Motzel said.<\/p>\n
In meetings with several new European ambassadors to Tehran in late September, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for the promotion of economic ties between Iran and European states and stressed that bilateral trade should not be affected by US illegal and unilateral sanctions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
