The export of non-oil commodities since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) via the southeastern port city of Chabahar has risen by 95 percent compared to the corresponding period a year earlier, an official said.<\/p>\n
Behrooz Aqaei, the director general of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Sistan and Baluchestan Province said the rise in non-oil exports comes thanks to the port\u2019s perfect equipment and infrastructure.<\/p>\n
He also noted that Chabahar is working as a hub situated near the ocean, saying India and Afghanistan are regularly dispatching cargo and container ships to the major Iranian port as part of a trilateral agreement with Iran.<\/p>\n
On August 5, the official announced that Iran signed an MoU with Afghanistan\u2019s private sector on goods transit via the Chabahar port.<\/p>\n
He added that given the good neighborliness between the two countries, the MoU was signed to develop the Afghan private sector\u2019s transit and investment activities in the fields of transportation, attraction of investors and logistics within the framework of Iran\u2019s rules and regulations.<\/p>\n
Under the MoU, the Afghan private sector has been assigned to transfer the country\u2019s goods to target markets via Shahid Beheshti Port, the official noted.<\/p>\n
Transit cooperation between the Chabahar port and Afghanistan has been expanded significantly in recent years, he said.<\/p>\n
Aqaei added four ships carrying Afghanistan\u2019s cargoes, including nuts, were earlier sent to India and China via Shahid Beheshti Port.<\/p>\n
The strategic port of Chabahar is the only oceanic port on the Makran coast in southeastern Iran and has a special status in the country’s economic affairs.<\/p>\n
Chabahar has two separate ports named Shahid Kalantari and Shahid Beheshti, each having five berths.<\/p>\n
Iran has handed over the development project of this port to India, which has allocated $500 million to build two new berths in this port.<\/p>\n
India has doubled the fund allocated for the development of the port in its national budget bill for 2020.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
