Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said Tuesday the United Arab Emirates has betrayed the entire Muslim world by normalizing ties with Israel, but that the betrayal will not last long.<\/p>\n
The UAE \u201cbetrayed the world of Islam, the Arab nations, the region\u2019s countries, and the important cause of Palestine,\u201d Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with directors at the Education Ministry via a video conference on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, this situation will not last long, and the stain of shame will remain on the face of those who forgot the occupation of this country (Palestine) and the displacement of the Palestinian nation and allowed the Zionists into the region.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Leader was referring to the agreement recently brokered by the US to establish full diplomatic relations between the UAE and Israel.<\/p>\n
Ayatollah Khamenei further expressed dismay at Abu Dhabi\u2019s collaboration with Israel and the wicked elements at the helm of the US administration in their brutal actions against the interests of the region and the entire Islamic world.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe nation of Palestine is under various severe pressures. Then, the UAE acts in agreement with the Israelis and filthy Zionist agents of the US,\u201d the Leader said.<\/p>\n
Ayatollah Khamenei advised the UAE to \u201csoon wake up and compensate for what they have done.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the deal, only the third such accord Israel has struck with an Arab country, Tel Aviv agreed to suspend annexation of Palestinian lands.<\/p>\n
But Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed that did not mean Israel was abandoning plans to annex the Jordan Valley and settlements across the occupied West Bank.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe UAE rulers opened the door of the region to the Zionists, and they have ignored and normalized the question of Palestine, which is a question about the usurpation of a country. This stigma will remain on them,\u201d Ayatollah Khamenei said.<\/p>\n
His remarks came after a US-Israeli delegation landed in Abu Dhabi on Monday on the first direct commercial flight from Tel Aviv, with Saudi Arabia allowing the flight to cross its airspace.<\/p>\n
All Palestinian factions have censured the peace deal as a stab in the back of the oppressed nation. The agreement has also drawn angry reactions from Muslim countries and other supporters of the Palestinian cause against Israeli occupation.<\/p>\n
In turn, Iranian officials have lined up to denounce the UAE for betraying the cause of Palestine.<\/p>\n
In mid-August, President Hassan Rouhani said the UAE made a \u201chuge mistake\u201d by making peace with Israel, warning Abu Dhabi about the consequences of allowing the Tel Aviv regime to secure a foothold in the region.<\/p>\n
