The Iranian islands of the Persian Gulf will be \nturned into residential areas, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps \n(IRGC) Navy Chief Alireza Tangsiri announced on Wednesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tangsiri said the decision came according to an order issued by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

\nThe announcement was made as Iran marked the National Persian Gulf Day on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe plan to prepare the Persian Gulf islands for the people to live on by creating the residential infrastructure,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the decision is intended to show that Iran is after establishing security in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIran has always transmitted the message \nof peace to regional countries and believes that security of the Persian\n Gulf can be ensured by regional countries\u2019 cooperation,\u201d he remarked, \nMehr reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He named the presence of foreign forces in the region as the major source of insecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIllegal presence of American forces in \nthe Persian Gulf is a big threat to its security and Iranian forces do \nnot permit any foreign flotilla to enter its territorial waters,\u201d he \nadded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The admiral also said Leader of the Islamic Revolution has a great interest in the strategic waterway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also said littoral states can make foreign forces leave the Persian Gulf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, in his \nWednesday remarks in the cabinet meeting, addressed the U.S. saying that\n \u201cthis gulf\u2019s name is the Persian Gulf not the gulf of New York or \nWashington gulf.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe U.S. must stop applying its \nconspiracy plots against the Iranian nation who has its name on this \ngulf and has protected it in history,\u201d Rouhani said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Iranian nation and soldiers beside \nthe IRGC, Armed Forces and Basij forces will continue protecting the \nPersian Gulf,\u201d he underlined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iranian officials have repeatedly said \nthat the Persian Gulf belongs to its littoral states and that they are \ncapable of providing its security and there is no reason for the United \nStates to be in the Persian Gulf to have its Navy there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
