\n\tSpeaking in an exclusive interview published by the Mehr News Agency on\n Friday, Rear Admiral Amir Rastegari, head of Defense Ministry’s Marine \nIndustries Organization, said the destroyer will be a trimaran ship \u2013 a \nvessel consisting of multiple hulls \u2013 equipped with \u201cvery special \ncapabilities\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\t\u201cThis destroyer will extend the capabilities of the Iranian Navy for \nlonger operations in the seas with very special defensive and offensive \ncapabilities,\u201d Rastegari said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\tThe ship can \u201cconduct operations for at least two months without docking for supplies\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\tRastegari expressed hope that the construction of the vessel is expected to start this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\tIn 2018, Iran launched its most advanced military vessel, Sahand, which\n has radar-evading stealth properties and can sustain voyages lasting \nfive months without resupply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\tRastegari added that submarines are a vital asset in naval conflicts \nand their production is a matter of state-of-the-art technology across \nthe world, noting that Iran has the capability to produce nuclear \nsubmarines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\t\u201cThankfully we have acquired such a knowhow and capability,\u201d he said, \nadding, however, that \u201cwe have not yet received orders” to produce \nnuclear submarines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\tThe rear admiral stressed that the production of nuclear-powered \nsubmarines does not go against Iran’s commitments to the 2015 nuclear \ndeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\tRastegari added that Iran has fast-attack craft which can sail to \nspeeds of up to 130 kmph and is currently developing craft with can \nreach speeds of up to 170 kmph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\t\u201cWe truly do not have high-speed craft that can travel beyond 130 kmph \nand carry missiles and military radar systems with them produced \nanywhere,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\t\u201cThe Americans have high-speed craft which can travel about 105 kmph at most,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\tThe rear admiral explained that the development of the fast-attack \ncraft was a very \u201ccomplex field\u201d which demanded advanced designs that \nallow the craft to travel at high speeds without detaching from the \nwater level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\tHighlighting other undergoing projects of the marine organization, \nRastegari added that all Iranian ships under development will be \nequipped with point-defense systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\tThe rear admiral also underlined plans for future production of the \n\u201cPirouzan\u201d hovercraft and a complete composite-body minesweeper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\tAsked whether Iran was interested in producing aircraft carriers, \nRastegari said that producing such vessels is not within Iran\u2019s military\n doctrine despite Iran having the capability to produce them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\tIran has taken great strides seeking to attain self-sufficiency in \nproducing essential military equipment and defense systems in the face \nof decades-long sanctions and arms embargoes on the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The country consequently produces a wide variety of advanced weapons systems and equipment based on its own technological capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
