An Iranian lawmaker has censured blind conformance of\n Britain, France and Germany (the three European signatories to 2015 \nnuclear deal) with the U.S. unilateralism, saying the E3\u2019s move to \ntrigger the dispute resolution mechanism under the deal is aimed at \nblackmailing Tehran. \n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In an interview with Tasnim published \non Monday, Masoud Goudarzi said that the Europeans intend to misuse the \ncurrent situation by activating the dispute mechanism to prevent Iran to\n continue its peaceful nuclear program in accordance with the Joint \nComprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is a model of blackmailing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Goudarzi, who is a member of Parliament\u2019s \nNational Security and Foreign Policy Committee, added, \u201cEurope was \nexpected to make decision independently within the framework of the \nJCPOA without reliance on the U.S., but it seems that they are following\n the U.S. unilateral policies. They lack independence of the will.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesman \nAbbas Mousavi told a regular news briefing that the European signatories\n to the JCPOA intended to activate the trigger mechanism but decided \nagainst it for now after hearing Iran\u2019s reasoning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday, the newly-appointed EU foreign \npolicy chief Josep Borrell, made his first visit to Iran for talks with \nForeign Minister Zarif, President Rouhani and Parliament Speaker \nLarijani. The talks were primarily expected to focus on the fate of the \nJCPOA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asked to comment about Borrell\u2019s visit to \nIran and Europe\u2019s move to trigger the dispute resolution mechanism, \nMousavi said, \u201cEurope has not activated the trigger mechanism yet. They \nwanted to, but didn\u2019t after they heard Iran\u2019s reasoning and arguments. \n(Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad) Zarif wrote a 14-page letter to Mr. \nBorrell in which all of these reasons were explained.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Talking to reporters before Zarif-Borrell meeting, Mousavi said Zarif\u2019s talks with the chief European diplomat will be \u201cfrank\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe visit of the European Union foreign \npolicy chief is important, and we hope that they have listened to our \nreasons and will cooperate with us,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The visit by Borrell is taking place as \nIran has taken a series of steps to reduce its commitments under the \ndeal in response to the U.S. withdrawal from the agreement and \nre-imposition of sanctions, and the Europeans\u2019 failure to keep their end\n of the bargain in protecting Iran\u2019s economic benefits against the U.S. \nsanctions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a recent interview with German weekly \nmagazine Der Spiegel, Zarif censured the European countries for having \nfailed to meet their commitments under the JCPOA, saying, “It\u2019s a \ndisaster for Europe to be so subservient to the U.S. Anybody who accepts\n unilateralism is helping it.” <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
