\nThe Iranian Armed Forces\u2019 joint military drills \ncodenamed \u201cModafe’an-e Aseman-e Velayat 98\u201d (Guardians of Velayat\u2019s \nSky-98) entered its second day on Friday in the Central province of \nSemnan, in a bid to boost preparedness in the face of potential threats \nin the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\n Iranian Air Force units started the second day of their large-scale \nmilitary exercises this morning with various types of state-of-the- art \nmissile and radar systems \u2014 designed and built at home \u2014 boasting their \ncounteroffensive power against different aerial threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The military drill is being held over an area of \n416,000 square kilometers in the central province of Semnan, simulating \nthe Persian Gulf general area and the strategic Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on the sidelines of the maneuver on \nThursday, Commander of the Iranian Army\u2019s Air Defense Force Brigadier \nGeneral Alireza Sabahi Fard said the first phase of the drill features \ndetecting and identifying enemy targets, while in the next phase radar \nsystem will engage airborne targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He warned against any violation of Iranian airspace, which he described as the country\u2019s \u201credline.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The drill is aimed at testing the country\u2019s latest\n military equipment and to enhance its preparedness in the face of \npotential threats in the simulated conditions of real war. The drill \nincludes various types of homegrown missile systems and radars \ncountering aerial threats in low, medium and high altitudes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first phase of the drill, held on Thursday, \nfeatured detecting and identifying enemy targets, while the second phase\n will involve radar systems engaging airborne targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Tuesday, USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) sailed \nthrough the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of all oil \nconsumed globally passes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In June, Iran\u2019s air defenses shot down a US-made \nRQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft system (UAS), which was sent on a \nspying mission into the Islamic Republic\u2019s skies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iran has conducted major military drills in recent\n years to enhance the defense capabilities of its Armed Forces and to \ntest modern military tactics and state-of-the-art equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Each year, the country inaugurates a host of new \nprojects and hardware developed with reliance on domestic capabilities. \nThe Islamic Republic maintains that its defense power is driven by \ndeterrence and poses no threat to any other country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a relevant development on Tuesday, the Ground \nForce of Iran\u2019s Army started large-scale military drills in the \ncountry\u2019s Northwestern region, in a bid to further boost the combat \nreadiness of its units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Codenamed \u201cZolfaghar-e-Velayat\u201d, the military \ndrills of the Iranian Army\u2019s Ground Forces started this morning in a \nvast strategic area in the Northwestern parts of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Various divisions of the Army Ground Force are participating in the drill, which is focused on practicing the transfer of rapid reaction units via ground and air from across the country to operation zones. The enlisted units will also display their efficacy and work to enhance their readiness in responding to operational requirements and threats through day and night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
