Most of the Palestinian minors arrested in 2017 have testified that they were subjected to violence and physical abuse by Israeli forces while in custody, a rights group says.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tMilitary Court Watch, which monitors the treatment of children in Israeli military detention, said on Thursday that two thirds of the 70 Palestinian minor prisoners aged between 12 and 17\u00a0had reported slaps, kicks, pinches and blows with various objects.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe figure shows an increase when compared to those recorded in the previous years.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe rights group said that 61 percent of the Palestinian minors had complained of being threatened by the Israeli soldiers and policemen, up from 47 percent in 2013 and 38 percent in 2014.<\/p>\n

\n\tIt also said\u00a093 percent of the Palestinian\u00a0detainees had reported that they were handcuffed, 79 percent blindfolded and the same percentage forced to sign documents written only in Hebrew.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2013, the United Nations children’s agency published a report on Palestinian children in Israeli custody, concluding that \u201cthe ill treatment of children who come in contact with the military detention system appears to be widespread, systematic and institutionalized throughout the process, from the moment of arrest to indictment of the child, the conviction and issuing of the verdict.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe UNICEF report confirmed that night arrests, cuffing and blindfolding, failure to inform detainees of the right to remain silent and denial of access to lawyers and parents prior to interrogation were part of the routine treatment of the Palestinian children by Israeli soldiers.<\/p>\n

\n\tSince the publication of the report,\u00a0Military Court Watch\u00a0has collected a total of 540 testimonies\u00a0from children detained in the West Bank by the Israeli forces.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe evidence indicates that the number of the Palestinian children reporting abuse has actually increased from 60 percent in 2013\u00a0to\u00a064 percent\u00a0in 2017.<\/p>\n

\n\tTwo Palestinians appear in Israeli court over slap video<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tSeparately on Thursday, two Palestinian women, who were arrested over the case of Ahed Tamimi, appeared in court.<\/p>\n

\n\tAhed, a\u00a017-year-old campaigner against Israel’s occupation,\u00a0was detained from her home by Israeli soldiers on Tuesday after a video went viral of her slapping an armed Israeli officer during a raid on the village of Nabi Saleh, northwest of Ramallah.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe court is expected to decide on the cases of Ahed’s\u00a0mother Nariman and her cousin Nour.<\/p>\n

\n\tAhed, who is accused of “assaulting a soldier, harming the security of the area, incitement, and other felonies,” appeared before a court on Wednesday and her detention was extended until December 25.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlmost 6,280 Palestinians are currently being held in Israeli jails, 465 of them under the controversial administrative detention, according to figures provided by the Palestinian\u00a0prisoners\u2019 rights group\u00a0Addameer.<\/p>\n

\n\tPalestinian detainees have continuously resorted to open-ended hunger strikes to voice their outrage at the administrative detention, which is a form of imprisonment without trial or charge that allows Israel to incarcerate Palestinians for up to six months.<\/p>\n
