{"id":2327,"date":"2017-12-18T21:42:33","date_gmt":"2017-12-18T22:42:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madaresharghi.com\/iea-forecasts-subdued-coal-demand-till-2022\/"},"modified":"2017-12-18T21:42:33","modified_gmt":"2017-12-18T22:42:33","slug":"iea-forecasts-subdued-coal-demand-till-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madaresharghi.ir\/en\/iea-forecasts-subdued-coal-demand-till-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"IEA Forecasts Subdued Coal Demand Till 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/madaresharghi..com\">madaresharghi<\/a><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p> \tGlobal coal demand will be subdued over the next five years, growing at just 0.5% a year, marginally higher than current levels, due to lower consumption in China, the International Energy Agency said on Monday.<br \/> \tCoal consumption fell last year by 1.9% to 5.35 billion tons from a year earlier as lower gas prices, a surge in renewables and efficiency improvements dampened demand, the IEA said in its annual coal market report, Reuters reported.<br \/> \tGlobal coal demand is expected to rise by an average rate of 0.5% a year to 5.53 billion tons by 2022, only marginally higher than current levels and meaning that coal use all but stagnates for around a decade, the agency said.<br \/> \tCoal use will decline in Europe, Canada, the United States and China\u2014the world\u2019s largest coal consumer\u2014but rise in Southeast Asia, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.<br \/> \tOver the period to 2022, India\u2019s consumption is seen growing the most at 3.3% a year to 605 million tons.<br \/> \tHaving peaked in 2013, China\u2019s consumption is expected to decline by 0.1% a year to 2.78 billion tons in 2022, as coal use in the industrial and residential sectors falls due to efforts to improve air quality.<br \/> \tUS coal consumption will increase slightly next year and then declines to 469 million tons by 2022, while EU consumption is expected to fall to 293 million tons by 2022.<br \/> \tOn the supply side, total global coal supply is expected to increase by 0.8% a year to 5.53 billion tons in 2020, mainly driven by non-OECD countries.<br \/> \tCoal\u2019s share in the global energy mix is forecast to decline to 26% in 2022, compared to 27% in 2016, the report said.<br \/> \tAfter years of decline, coal prices continued to strengthen this year, driven by a sharp cut in Chinese coal output coupled with strong demand across the Asia-Pacific region and in Europe.<br \/> \tEuropean API2 2018 coal futures TRAPI2Yc1 are currently trading around $90 a ton due to higher demand in China and supply issues.<br \/> \tDespite high prices in 2016-17, coal project development has been slow.
