The secrets of the 4,500-year-old Great Pyramid of Giza on the outskirts of Cairo are set to be revealed thanks to robots.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tUsing an imaging method and a robot based on cosmic rays scientists hope to uncover the mysteries of the pyramid, express.co.uk wrote.<\/p>\n

\n\tScientists have built the probe that will enter the 3.5cm keyhole in a wall after a large and enigmatic internal structure was detected in the last of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still standing.<\/p>\n

\n\tResearchers announced the discovery in November but said they did not know the purpose, contents or precise dimensions of what they are calling a \u2018void\u2019 or \u2018cavity\u2019 inside the pyramid, built as a monumental tomb around 2560 BCE.<\/p>\n

\n\tLast month, they said the newly discovered internal structure was at least 100 feet long, and located above a hallway measuring about 155 feet long, called the Grand Gallery, one of a series of passageways and chambers inside the immense pyramid.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe researchers said it constituted the first major inner structure found in the Great Pyramid since the 19th century.<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd to peer inside the pyramid, the scientists used an imaging technique called muon tomography that tracks particles that bombard Earth at close to the speed of light and penetrate deeply into solid objects.<\/p>\n

\n\tMuon particles originate from interactions between cosmic rays from space and atoms of Earth\u2019s upper atmosphere.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe particles can penetrate hundreds of yards meters) into stone before being absorbed. Placing detectors inside a pyramid can discern cavities within a solid structure.<\/p>\n

\n\tMehdi Tayoubi, president and co-founder of the HIP Institute in France, one of the leaders of the study published in the journal Nature said: \u201cWhat we are sure about is that this big void is there, that it is impressive, that it was not expected by, as far as I know, any kind of theory.<\/p>\n

\n\tHany Helal of Cairo University said: \u201cWe open the question to Egyptologists and archeologists: What could it be?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNow, it is hoped that researchers will uncover its mystery during a project called Scan Pyramids that relies on non-invasive scanning methods to probe the internal structure of the pyramids of ancient Egypt\u2019s glorious Old Kingdom period and understand how they were built.<\/p>\n

\n\tLead researcher Dr. Jean-Baptiste Mouret told Digital Trends said: \u201cThe main challenge is to insert a complete exploration robot in a hole that is as small as possible.<\/p>\n

\n\t“It is important to use a hole as small as possible because we want to leave as few traces as we can. This what we call ‘minimally invasive robotics’.”<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Great Pyramid, looming alongside other large pyramids, is a towering achievement, remarkable for its simple beauty and colossal grandeur.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe emblem of one of the great civilizations of antiquity, it soars to a height of 479 feet (146 meters), the tallest structure built by humankind until the Eiffel Tower in Paris in 1889, and boasts a base measuring 754 feet (230 meters).<\/p>\n
