A Bahraini delegation arrived in Israel with a message from the country’s king, in the latest instance of warming ties between the two sides, The Times of Israel reported.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tSome 24 members of \u201cThis is Bahrain\u201d group, which claims campaigning for \u201creligious freedom,\u201d traveled to Israel last week for a four-day visit, Press TV cited the paper as saying.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe king sent us with a message of peace to the whole world,\u201d a member on the group was quoted as saying\u00a0about the visit.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn September, Israeli media said Bahrain\u2019s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifah had called at an event hosted by pro-Israeli group Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles for an end to the Arab boycott of Israel, and the establishment of diplomatic ties with Tel Aviv.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIsraeli tourists and businessmen have been traveling to Bahrain in recent years. The Israeli daily cited a prominent rabbi, who had met with the king, as saying that the monarch intended to\u00a0allow citizens from his kingdom to visit Israel freely.<\/p>\n

\n\tLast year, the tiny kingdom became the only Persian Gulf country to publicly mourn the death of former Israeli president Shimon Peres.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlso in 2016, Bahraini officials raised eyebrows by hosting and participating in the Israeli Hanukkah celebration.<\/p>\n

\n\tLeaks obtained by WikiLeaks also showed that senior officials from Israel and Bahrain had\u00a0spoken in recent years. They cited a 2007 meeting between then Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni and Bahraini Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa in New York.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2005, the Bahraini king boasted to an American official that his state had\u00a0contacts with Israel \u201cat the intelligence\/security level,\u201d WikiLeaks\u2019 findings also showed.<\/p>\n

\n\tArab states have been traditionally depicting themselves as Israel\u2019s enemies and supporters of the Palestinian cause against Tel Aviv\u2019s occupation of the Palestinian territories.<\/p>\n

\n\tIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has admitted that his regime has ties with the Arab world, and that the relations are improving.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a comment, Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz acknowledged last month\u00a0that Tel Aviv had had covert contacts with Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n

\n\tYaacov Nagel, who stepped down as Netanyahu\u2019s internal security advisor earlier this year, also said last month that Saudi Arabia was ready to sacrifice Palestinians and their demands for closer ties with Israel.<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd on Friday, Reuters cited Palestinian officials as expressing worries\u00a0that Saudi Arabia was acting behind the scenes to advance a United States \u201cgrand bargain\u201d over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that heavily favored Israel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
