Qatar\u2019s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has urged fellow Arab nations of the Persian Gulf region to respect the sovereignty and dignity of his country in any solution proposed to overcome a current dispute with Doha.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cQatar’s sovereignty is above all considerations. We want to resolve the rift but not at the expense of our sovereignty and dignity,\u201d Sheikh Tamim said Thursday while making a reference to a six-month dispute with a bloc of Arab countries of the Persian Gulf.<\/p>\n

\n\tSaudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt decided to cut diplomatic and economic ties with Qatar on June 5 on allegations that Doha supports terrorism and is too close to Iran. Qatar has rejected the claims while maintaining that it is paying the price for its independent foreign policy.<\/p>\n

\n\tSheikh Tamim said Doha was ready to sort out differences with the former Arab allies, but insisted that any settlement should respect Qatar\u2019s rights and interests in the region.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAny solution should be founded on a clear basis acceptable by all and the non-interference in the sovereignty of others,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cIf the brothers want to resolve the dispute, we are ready.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe emir made the remarks while speaking to reporters along visiting French President Emmanuel Macron.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn June 22, the boycotters released a 13-point list of demands, including the closure of Al Jazeera television news network and downgrade of relations with Iran, in return for the normalization of diplomatic relations with Doha.<\/p>\n

\n\tDoha has strongly refused to comply with the demands, calling them unacceptable. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tKuwait, a tiny state in the Persian Gulf, has led mediation efforts although little has been achieved and the two sides of the conflict show almost no sign that they are ready to engage in real dialogue to settle the dispute.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
