At least seven Afghan people, including policemen and civilians, have lost their lives in a bombing near a hotel in the country\u2019s capital, Kabul.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tPolice sources said the casualties took place on Thursday\u00a0when the bomber tried to get into the hotel building<\/span>\u2014\u00a0which was hosting a political gathering\u00a0<\/span>\u2014\u00a0but was stopped at the security checkpoint, presstv.ir reported.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tA spokesman for the Interior Ministry said supporters of Atta Mohammad Noor, the powerful governor of Afghanistan\u2019s Balkh Province, had been holding an event inside the hall of the hotel at the time of the explosion.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAfter lunch, as we were exiting the hall a huge explosion shook the hall, shattering glass and causing chaos and panic,<\/span>\u201d\u00a0Harun Mutaref, a participant at the gathering said.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI saw many bodies including police and civilians lying in blood.<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe bombing attack left five police officers and two civilians dead, with many more wounded, according to the ministry.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tNo group or individual has so far claimed responsibility for the explosion, which was the latest in a wave of violence in Afghanistan that has killed and wounded thousands of civilians this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tAfghanistan is engulfed by violence and many parts of the country remain plagued by militancy despite the presence of foreign troops.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tThe United States and its NATO allies occupied the country as part of Washington\u2019s so-called war on terror in 2001, which toppled the Taliban regime.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tOver the past 16 years, the Taliban have been carrying out a militancy across Afghanistan, killing and displacing government officials, security forces, and civilians.<\/span><\/p>\n
