{"id":1684,"date":"2017-11-11T21:14:49","date_gmt":"2017-11-11T22:14:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/madaresharghi.com\/lebanese-offshore-oil-gas-licensing-round-continues\/"},"modified":"2017-11-11T21:14:49","modified_gmt":"2017-11-11T22:14:49","slug":"lebanese-offshore-oil-gas-licensing-round-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madaresharghi.ir\/en\/lebanese-offshore-oil-gas-licensing-round-continues\/","title":{"rendered":"Lebanese Offshore Oil, Gas Licensing Round Continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/madaresharghi..com\">madaresharghi<\/a><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p> \tLebanon\u2019s Energy Minister Cesar Abi Khalil on Friday called on companies bidding in its first round of licensing to explore for oil and gas in its Mediterranean waters to begin technical discussions, suggesting the process would continue despite the political crisis.<br \/> \tThe country&#8217;s Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri resigned in a speech from Saudi Arabia last Saturday and has yet to return to the country, sparking a political crisis, Reuters reported.<br \/> \tPresident Aoun has said he will not accept Hariri\u2019s resignation until he returns to the country, while the Lebanese authorities have said they consider the government to still be legitimate.<br \/> \tAbi Khalil said on Twitter that he signed a document on Friday calling on companies who submitted bids for the offshore licensee blocks \u201cto negotiate the technical proposals\u201d.<br \/> \tLebanon sits on the Levant Basin in the eastern Mediterranean where a number of big subsea gas fields have been discovered since 2009, including the Leviathan and Tamar fields.<br \/> \tLebanon relaunched the tendering competition for the exploration and production rights in January after a three-year delay due to political paralysis.<br \/> \tHowever, a consortium made up of France\u2019s Total, Italy\u2019s Eni and Russia\u2019s Novatek made the only offer in the tendering process that closed on Oct. 12, with bids for two of the blocks.<br \/> \tThe Lebanese Petroleum Administration has said it will evaluate bids for the offshore blocks and present them to the energy minister by Nov. 13.
