French President Emmanuel Macron has stressed that his country will keep Iran\u2019s landmark 2015 nuclear deal despite opposition from US President Donald Trump.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a Thursday meeting with Saudi Arabia’s crown prince in Riyadh, Macron repeatedly said that he wanted to keep the deal.<\/p>\n

\n\tMacron, on his debut visit to the Middle East, flew in from a tour of the United Arab Emirates for his first face-to-face talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, AFP reported.<\/p>\n

\n\tUS pressure to renegotiate the Iran nuclear deal could push Tehran into deciding to build its own nuclear weapons, Macron had told Time magazine in an interview published Thursday.<\/p>\n

\n\tTehran has always stressed that its nuclear activities were peaceful.<\/p>\n

\n\tLast month, Trump broke ranks with European allies, Russia and China by refusing to re-certify Iran\u2019s compliance with its nuclear deal with world powers.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Republican president gave Congress 60 days to decide whether to re-impose economic sanctions on Iran, lifted under the pact in exchange for curbing its nuclear activities.<\/p>\n

\n\tEuropean leaders say they are determined to keep alive the accord which offered Iran an economic lifeline and opened new investment opportunities for European businesses.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
