A Syrian Information Minister Mohammad Ramez Tardjaman said no land is considered liberated in the country unless national army forces regain control of it and raise the Syrian flag atop its buildings.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe do not consider any city liberated until the Syrian Arab army enters it and lifts the Syrian flag over it. This applies to any point of the Syrian map,\u201d Tardjaman told Russia\u2019s SPUTNIK in an interview published on Monday.<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier this month, the so-called Syria Democratic Forces (SDF), a US-backed coalition of mainly Kurdish militants, captured the city of Raqqah from the Daesh terror group following a military operation, which was launched in July without the central government\u2019s approval.<\/p>\n

\n\tUS President Donald Trump, whose country has been leading a bombing campaign in Syria since 2014, claimed that the city\u2019s \u2018liberation\u2019 was a result of the purported changes that he had brought to the US military\u2019s strategy.<\/p>\n

\n\tTardjaman described the withdrawal of Daesh from its former Syrian base as a \u2018positive event,\u2019 but emphasized that the city was not yet liberated.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cRegardless of whether Daesh is there or some other faction or organization,\u201d the Syrian army needs to enter and retake control of Raqqah in order for the city to be called free.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe also denounced any unauthorized \u201clocal compromises, truces, and establishment of de-escalation areas\u201d by forces controlling Raqqah.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Syrian administration will never bow down to compromises that violate Syria\u2019s national unity and sovereignty,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n

\n\tSome, he said, wrongfully assumed that such arrangements, which do not have Damascus\u2019 approval, could lead to \u201cfederalism, confederalism, or autonomy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe also lambasted \u201cfactitious demarcations, such as \u2018east Euphrates and west Euphrates,\u2019 which the US and its allies have been promoting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Syrian government does not accord any importance to these terms and delineations, and will never recognize them,\u201d the minister stated.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe was apparently reacting to an October 20 statement by the SDF, in which it announced the \u2018liberation’ of Raqqah and said the city will be part of a system of \u2018federal government\u2019 in the country\u2019s north.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Syrian military has not so far engaged the SDF, which has reportedly shelled the positions of government troops on several occasions in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
