Daesh killed 116 Syrian people, many summarily, in a central town in Syria retaken from the terror group by government troops over the weekend, the Syrian government and activists said Monday.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tA senior Syrian official described the bloodshed as a \u201cshocking massacre,\u201d saying the search and documentation of those killed in the town of Qaryatayn, in Homs Province, is still underway, AP reported.<\/p>\n

\n\tSome were shot in the street as Daesh terrorists retreated from the town, according to activists.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tA video, filmed as Syrian government troops recaptured Qaryatayn, showed several bodies in the streets of the town. In the video, a town resident says Daesh \u201cmonsters\u201d killed over a 100 people, including soldiers and civilians.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThese are people who don\u2019t know God; they don\u2019t know anything. They killed children and women with knives, they beat women, broke their arms,\u201d a man said, speaking on condition of anonymity fearing for his own safety.<\/p>\n

\n\tTalal Barazi, the governor of Homs Province, said on Monday that most of the bodies were of townspeople who were government employees or were affiliated with Syria\u2019s ruling Baath Party.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe said the killings went on for the three weeks that Daesh was in town and \u201cterrorized\u201d its residents.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt is a shocking massacre,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it had documented the killings of at least 128 people killed in Qaryatayn during the last days of Daesh control of the town.<\/p>\n

\n\tGovernment forces retook Qaryatayn on Saturday, three weeks after the terrorists seized control of it.<\/p>\n

\n\tDaesh had first occupied the town in 2015, and lost it to Syrian forces last year.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAfter the government retook it [on Saturday], the town\u2019s residents found the bodies on the streets. They had been shot dead or murdered with knives,\u201d said the head of the monitor, Rami Abdel Rahman.<\/p>\n
