Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said here that Kurdistan Region’s September 25 referendum is now ‘history.’<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n
\n

\n\t\u201cThe referendum is now over,\u201d said al-Abadi at his weekly press briefing held in the Iraqi capital on Tuesday, IRNA reported.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI now call for dialogue under the umbrella of the Iraqi Constitution,\u201d Iraqinews.com quoted al-Abadi as referring to the recent voting in Iraqi Kurdistan which sparked a political crisis and lately the Iraqi incursion into Kirkuk.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Iraqi flag belongs to all Iraqis and should be hoisted across the country, said the Iraqi prime minister.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe further appreciated the Peshmerga fighters for their withdrawal during the operation conducted by the Iraqi Army in Kirkuk.<\/p>\n

\n\tAl-Abadi further stressed \u201cIraqi forces will not engage into infighting,\u201d and \u201cany assault on Kurds is an assault on us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added his government would soon declare the liberation of all Iraqi territories and clearing the borderline with Syria.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe underlined that he is committed to what he has already said to draw borders through peace.<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite opposition by the Iraqi Federal Government and regional states, as well as international warnings, the KRG referendum was held on September 25 in some northern Iraqi provinces, including Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, and some disputed regions like Kirkuk.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
