\n\t\t\tOn Friday, Hamadeh found Jalloud guilty and tried\u00a0him in absentia\u00a0for the cleric’s abduction, Lebanon\u2019s state-owned\u00a0National News Agency\u00a0(NNA) reported.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tJalloud was the prime minister of Libya between 1972 and 1977, and operated alongside slain dictator Muammar\u00a0Gaddafi as second-in-command. He disappeared from public view in 1995. He is the last surviving leader of Libya\u2019s 1969 September Revolution.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Lebanese parliament speaker says he strongly believes that Sadr\u00a0is still alive, calling for collective efforts to find out about the fate of the cleric and his companions.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSpeaking at a ceremony marking the 39th<\/span>\u00a0anniversary of Sadr\u2019s disappearance in Beirut, Nabih Berri called on Lebanese media outlets to follow up on the clergyman\u2019s fate, stressing that Lebanese judicial officials were also looking into the case.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe fact-finding mission formed to inquire about the case\u00a0has however been unable to visit Libya due to violence and political instability in the North African country, the top Lebanese legislator argued.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tImam Musa al-Sadr was a highly\u00a0revered Shia cleric of Iranian descent, who founded the Lebanese Amal (Hope) Movement in 1974. He came to Lebanon in 1959 to work for the rights of Shia Muslims in the port city of Tyre, located about 80\u00a0kilometers (50\u00a0miles) south of\u00a0Beirut.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe prominent Shia cleric (pictured below) disappeared\u00a0on August 31, 1978, during an official visit to the Libyan capital Tripoli.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHe was accompanied by Sheikh Mohammad Yaqoub and journalist Abbas Badreddine.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tLebanon still holds former Libyan officials responsible for the disappearance of the trio.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSince\u00a0Gaddafi was deposed and killed in 2011,\u00a0Lebanon and Iran have repeatedly called on the Libyan\u00a0government\u00a0to launch an investigation into Sadr’s disappearance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHannibal Gaddafi, the son of the Libyan dictator, is currently in custody in Lebanon, facing charges of withholding information regarding Sadr\u2019s case.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIn August 2016, Sadr’s family filed a lawsuit against Gaddafi over his role in the disappearance of the senior Shia cleric.<\/p>\n
