The United States has offered a total of $12 million bounty for information leading to the arrest of two senior officials from the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n
\n

\n\tThe US State Department said on Tuesday that it will pay up to $7 million for tips about Talal Hamiyah, head of Hezbollah\u2019s foreign operations, and $5 million for Fu\u2019ad Shukr, a top military officer of the movement, presstv.com reported.<\/p>\n

\n\tNathan Sales, State Department\u2019s coordinator for counterterrorism, told reporters that the rewards, which were the first of their kind in a decade, were another step to increase the pressure on Hezbollah.<\/p>\n

\n\tSales denounced the resistance movement as a \u2018global threat\u2019 and stressed that \u201ccountering Hezbollah is a top priority for the [US President Donald] Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe further signaled that Washington would press countries into designating Hezbollah as a terrorist group and into making no distinction between the group\u2019s political and military wings.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHezbollah has no political wing. It is a single organization, a terrorist organization,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe US labels the entire Hezbollah a terrorist organization. Most recently, the US Congress Foreign Affairs committee voted for a network of additional sanctions against the resistance movement.\u200b<\/p>\n

\n\tAdditionally on Tuesday, Nicholas Rasmussen, director of the US National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), claimed that Hezbollah \u201cseeks to develop and maintain a global capability to carry out acts of terror.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe in the intelligence community do in fact see continued activity on behalf of Hezbollah here inside the homeland,\u201d Rasmussen added.<\/p>\n

\n\tSeparately, Israeli minister of military affairs, Avigdor Lieberman, claimed that Hezbollah controls the Lebanese army.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are talking about Hezbollah and the Lebanese army, and to my regret this is the reality. The Lebanese army has turned into an integral part of Hezbollah\u2019s command structure,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\n\tHezbollah has played a critical role in the Syrian military\u2019s counter-terrorism operations over the past few years. The movement says the mission is aimed at preventing the spillover the Syria crisis into Lebanon.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the latest gain against terrorists, Hezbollah and the Syrian military successfully purged Daesh elements from Syria\u2019s Qalamoun region on Lebanon\u2019s border. The Qalamoun operation came following a similar joint campaign at Lebanon\u2019s highlands of Arsal.<\/p>\n

\n\tNow, the US and Israel see their interests at stake as their proxy militants have been dealt heavy blows amid sweeping advances by Syrian government forces on the battlefield.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Sunday, Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said US sanctions had affected the group, but vowed that the bans would not weaken the group\u2019s resolve.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere is a new American policy against Hezbollah,\u201d Nasrallah said in a televised speech. \u201cBut it will not change Hezbollah\u2019s course \u2013 not in our positions against Israel, against the Takfiris, against the US scheme in the region or internally within Lebanon.\u201d<\/p>\n
