Iranian President Hassan Rouhani once again on Tuesday slammed the US recognition of Beit-ul-Moqaddas as the Israeli capital and a plan to relocate the American embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city, calling the move “impudent” which would create new tension in the Middle East.

“The US president’s wrong and illegal decision to move the American embassy to Beit-ul-Moqaddas was impudent toward Muslims,” Rouhani said before leaving Tehran for the Turkish city of Istanbul to attend a summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The emergency meeting, scheduled for today, was called by Turkey to formulate a “concerted response” to Donald Trump’s measure.

Rouhani said the recent US-Israeli “plot” is just the tip of the iceberg. “This is the exposed part and they are now trying the Muslim world and the Palestinians.”

He hailed Muslims across the globe and world leaders for condemning the US announcement.

The president said the US measure will “spark a new tension” in the Middle East which could bring about a “big victory” for Muslims and Palestinians if they rise up against it.

He added that Beit-ul-Moqaddas belongs to all Muslims and would be the “capital of the Palestinian state.”

Rouhani said at the OIC summit he will tell Muslim leaders to stand united in the face of the US move.

“We must unanimously condemn this wrong decision and say this is impossible and if the Americans insist on it, our region will face a huge disaster,” Rouhani said.

“Our message is that the Palestinian cause is the most important issue for Muslims and the Muslim world and Muslims must condemn this move in all international bodies, particularly the United Nations,” he said.

He reaffirmed Iran’s strong support for the Palestinian people and said, “Until all Palestinians return to their homeland and achieve their absolute rights, this support will continue.”

The president emphasized that unity, integrity and resistance of the Muslim Palestinian people in recent days proved that they can stand up against plots hatched by the arrogance and Zionists.

On December 6, Trump provoked international outrage by declaring that Washington was recognizing Beit-ul-Moqaddas as the capital of Israel and that he had instructed his administration to begin the process of moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to the ancient city.

The announcement prompted harsh international warnings that it would bring more chaos to the Middle East region. Protesters in many countries came out against the US and Israel.

The Iranian president on Monday held talks on phone with Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, saying that unity and resistance of the oppressed Palestinian people and other Muslim nations would definitely lead to the failure of the US-Zionist plan.
